HSTP conducted a research study to examine the reasons behind high out-of-pocket expenses on medicines in Odisha's public health facilities. Engaging multiple stakeholders—Odisha State Medical Corporation, district drug warehouses, healthcare providers, pharmacists and beneficiaries, we gathered insights to enhance the drug supply chain efficiency. Our study highlighted crucial factors like supply chain management and operational streamlining.
We emphasized the need for capacity building of pharmaceutical supply chain professionals, governance enhancements, and infrastructure strengthening to ensure consistent availability of medicines. A comprehensive plan outlining actionable steps to improve access to essential medicines across public health facilities was submitted to the state government.
