Knowing HSTP

Health Systems Transformation Platform (HSTP), formally registered as the Forum for Health Systems Design and Transformation under Section 8 of the Indian Companies Act 2013, was established in May 2018. As a not-for-profit organization, HSTP is committed to generating and applying evidence on health policy and systems to support informed decision-making. Our approach involves a comprehensive analysis of the healthcare landscape, identifying key areas for improvement and collaborating with state governments to design and implement solutions that enhance health system performance. Through rigorous research, HSTP validates these solutions and converts them into actionable knowledge products, which can be scaled for broader national impact.

Priority Areas

As India continues its efforts to strengthen health systems and address health inequities, the need for robust health policy and systems research is becoming increasingly clear. In response to this growing demand, HSTP was established with a mission to advance health policy and systems research nationwide. Focused on driving meaningful, lasting change to systems strengthening, HSTP is working in states such as Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka. Our work spans key priority areas across the health system such as Health Financing and Planning, Human Resources for Health, Health Systems Governance, Urban Primary Healthcare, Service Delivery, Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Management, and the Health Policy and Systems Research Fellowship. By staying attuned to the dynamic challenges faced by states, we continuously strive for innovative approaches and pathways to strengthen health systems and contribute to evidence-based policy reforms, ensuring equitable access to healthcare and better health outcomes for the communities that we work with.

Our Mission

Our mission is to advance health policy and systems research to generate evidence that supports policymakers and practitioners to translate knowledge into actionable strategies for improved health outcomes. We also strengthen the capacities of researchers, policymakers, and implementers, enabling them to generate evidence through research and effectively utilize evidence to build stronger health systems.

Journey

Approach

Guided by the vision of a healthier and more equitable India, HSTP bridges the gap between research and practice, ensuring that health policies are grounded in solid evidence and healthcare delivery aligns with the needs of diverse communities. Our approach focuses on producing high-quality research and knowledge products that shape strategic decision-making and developing evidence-based frameworks to strengthen health systems. These frameworks are validated through implementation research, ensuring their relevance and effectiveness.

We also prioritize building the capacity of mid-career researchers to conduct health policy and systems research. We also generate demand for such research by working with state officials and key stakeholders within the public health system to deepen their understanding of evidence-based strategies and enhance their ability to apply these insights in real-world contexts. This empowers policymakers to convert knowledge into action, allowing for the successful scaling of interventions across various regions and settings. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning, HSTP is committed to creating lasting and sustainable improvements in the health and well-being of communities across India.

Where We Work

HSTP operates in states such as Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, and Karnataka, collaborating with local governments, healthcare providers, and community stakeholders to address specific health challenges and improve healthcare delivery in these states. Our initiatives are rooted in research and evidence-based strategies to address real-world issues and are designed to enhance health outcomes and ensure equitable access to essential services that meet the unique needs of each state.

Beyond our state-level initiatives, HSTP is actively involved in the nationwide deployment of the National NP-NCD Portal. We offer capacity-building and techno-managerial support aimed at digitizing various aspects of NCD management including enrolment, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Targeting individuals aged 30 and above, this Portal facilitates the creation of digital health records and enables evidence-based planning to improve service delivery. Through our comprehensive efforts at both the state and national levels, HSTP is dedicated to fostering healthier communities and ensuring that essential health services are accessible to everyone, regardless of their geographic location or circumstances.
